Having oily skin is a very big responsibility. It takes a lot of caring after oily skin to assure that you do not end up with constant breakouts or looking shiny. The positive side to having oily skin is that during the winter months when everyone else suffers from dry skin, your skin looks fabulous!
It is very easy to have fabulous skin year round, even with oily skin. All you have to do is follow the 5; super-easy steps below and you will notice a definite change in your skin. Most people with oily skin believe they need to stay clear of any oil-based products. That is actually not true. There is a completely new breed of oil based products out there today that can actually help maintain your skin beautiful without adding excess oil to it. Yes, believe it or not, oil is your friend.

Step 1: Cleanse with a botanical oil-based cleanser. Recently dermatologists have found that botanical oils actually adhere to the sebum deep inside your skin and wash out together when you cleanse with water. So the botanical oils actually help you excrete the excess oil in your skin. A great cleanser with botanical oils is Bobby Brown Cleansing Oil. It can be used with or without water. It feels great on the skin, take make-up off without having to scrub and leaves skin soft and radiant.
Step 2: Look for products that help absorb excess oil. Carita Ideal Controle Powder Lotion is the perfect toner to help prep your skin for your lotions and potions. It helps absorb excess sebum as well as leaves your skin with a perfect matte look. If you tend to get really shiny skin, start your beauty regime with a mattifying lotion. Dr Brandt BB Matte Cream helps treat for moisture, imperfections and creates a matte finish. It gives you medium coverage, as well as containing vitamin c to help prevent fine lines.
Step 3: Exfoliate with a retinal-based exfoliator. This helps prevent breakouts. This is best done once or twice a week, to make sure that you are getting your skin and pores clean, but not drying out your skin. The perfect retinol exfoliator varies from person to person. It is best if you try it first on the top of your hand to see if you have any adverse reaction to it.
Step 4: Moisturize your skin. Many believe that by adding moisture to your skin, you are also adding excess oil. That is simply not true. Overly dry skin can also tend to get oily because your skin begins to overcompensate for the lack of moisture. By keeping balanced moisture levels, you help your skin better self-regulate sebum production. Dermalogica Clear Start Oil Clearing Matte Moisturizer helps to balance your skin's natural moisture levels, and keep a matte complexion.
Step 5: Drink water. Most of us underestimate the value of water to beautiful skin. If you have oily skin, hydration helps keep your skin balanced! Remember whenever your skin is void of anything, like hydration it starts to overcompensate by producing more sebum, which creates excess oil. In order to prevent this process from happening, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
