Block Heels and More for the 40 and Over Woman

In years past when you were younger, you probably loved those skinny high heels, but girl, when you get into your forties; you need to change things up, right? Your lifestyle must have changed by now and in a lot of cases, you may want to go for a more casual look. Of course, the proverbial heels are still good for certain occasions such as a conference or a business meeting. Skinny heels may not be practical or comfortable enough to run errands and go shopping or meet with friends.
Conversely, you don't want to feel like a granny with flats on all of the time. An excellent substitute would be block heels. These usually have low to medium heels, which are wider, chunkier and squarer than the norm. Your feet will feel more evenly distributed and it is easier and more comfortable to walk in. Block heels also allow you an additional few inches of height where flats don't. It elongates your legs and actually makes you appear taller and thinner.

Choose these wisely though because some can look like Queen Elizabeth wore them and may look quite antiquated. Because they are styles brought back from the sixties and seventies, many young people might think they are cool since this generation probably never saw these before. That is where you have one up on them because you are bringing back fashion that can be appreciated even by the younger generation.
The slingback
Slingbacks have a soft spot with most women. There is something very provocative about them, particularly if they have those pointed toes. These also elongate the legs and if you wear in a neutral color, it will match any outfit. I have seen a pair the other day with silver heels while the top was gold and copper. This was a very interesting color block look, which was quite modern.
Playful and exciting colors Even though winter is over, did you know that white shoes are still on the store shelves? They will make your outfit look fresh, especially off white. If you are not into white, you can try colors like caramel, tan or bright colors like orange, blue, green and yellow.
Conventional, but not dull
If you still hold down a career, you can choose a block heeled pair of shoes with minimum height, which will provide great comfort. A neutral color and peep toes with crystal patterns on the heels will definitely create an elegant and sophisticated look for the office.
Conclusion
If you are over 40, do you like flats, high heels or block heels? Will you be wearing any of these for the summer? Have you seen any of your peers wearing these and how did they look? If you want to get involved in this discussion, by all means, please do so. We want to hear your comments.
